Sonko said he respects opposition leaders Raila Odinga (ODM) and Kalonzo as elders as well as experienced politicians who have steered the country for long.

"All these people in the opposition, I respect them," he said.

"I respect Kalonzo as the king of Ukambani. I also respect Raila Odinga because the two were my bosses during the grand coalition government."

He was speaking during the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti's husband in Kathiani, Machakos on Friday.

He however, faulted the Wiper party leader for failing to help the people of Ukambani during the grand coalition government time when he was Vice President.

Sonko said Kalonzo has for a long time played an instrumental role in uniting the Kamba people.

He said he was ready to join Cord, though he reiterated he would make the move if the coalition endorses Kalonzo for president in 2017.

"Recently you heard Governor Hassan Joho in Kisumu say that he will be Raila's running mate in 2017," he said.

"And I have not heard any person from Ukambani come out to defend Kalonzo Musyoka."

Raila, Kalonzo and Moses Wetangula are expected to battle it out for Cord's flagbearer position in preparation for 2017.
