Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has come out to explain the failure to meet some of his election pledges which were to be fulfilled within the first 100 days in office.

Having kept just a few of the campaign promises, Sonko blamed the long election season for the delay.

"I have only worked for 40 days since we were campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta and the political temperatures were high for the other 60 days," he said.

In an interview with Daily Nation, the governor also blamed non-performing county employees for the failure of his administration to keep its promises.

"I was lenient with the workers thinking that they will do their job, but instead they have been sabotaging my efforts," Sonko said.

Among the pledges he is yet to meet are digitisation of county operations, halving parking fee, revocation of irregular and illegal contracts signed by immediate city boss Evans Kidero and others.

Sonko, however, has remained optimistic they will be implemented.

"Let the people know that my scorecard is based on the very few days I have actually worked," the Jubilee governor added.
