President Uhuru Kenyatta has criticised Nairobi senator Mike Sonko for declaring himself acting president, with the president insisting it was only on one occasion he left the Office of the President.

He noted that he remains the Kenya's President no matter where he is, and that this should not be disputed.

Mr Kenyatta added that Kenyans should not be bothered by what people say at funerals or other ceremonies.

"Do not get bothered over what people say in funerals, weddings and all these other places. I have only in one occasion left the Office of the President," said Uhuru.

He added: "Only once when some people took me to some funny court out there and I signed a piece of paper leaving my deputy to act as president."

Senator Sonko last Friday stated that he was the acting President since Uhuru Kenyatta was out of the country, something that did not go down well with the government.
