Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has insisted he will only drop out of the gubernatorial race if residents of this county ask him to do so.
Addressing faithfuls at the Jesus is Alive Ministries Church in Nairobi, the senator warned a section of leaders who have been urging him to step down to desist from the same with immediate effect.
According to Sonko, leaders are chosen by the people and not parties.
He further cautioned Jubilee leaders against attempting to impose leaders on the residents of Nairobi as the next general polls draw closer.
"We have people wananchi do not want, people who have done nothing yet some want them to lead," he said, as quoted by Star.
Sonko and other leaders in JP have been calling on former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth to distance himself from the race for the county’s top seat, arguing that he is a foreigner who does not understand the dynamics of politics in this region as well as the needs of the people.
Earlier, Sonko had asked Starehe MP Maina Kamanda to stop intimidating aspirants opposed to PK’election.
He was accompanied by MPs Johnson Sakaja (Nominated), Dennis Waweru (Dagoreti South) and former Starehe MP. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
