Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is a man under siege.
Sonko’s style of leadership has created enemies left, right and center and are hell bent to ensure they bring down his administration.
Unfortunately, many Kenyans cannot see things as they are and have resulted to view Mike Sonko as a failure who cannot steer Nairobi to any sane direction.
That is however further from the truth. Nairobi is under threat from cartels that had made it a cash cow.
They siphoned millions from taxpayers’ coffers through outright theft of revenue, dubious tenders, and land grabbing. When he assumed office, Sonko used his thug lifestyle to dismantle these cartels.
And in a characteristic way of all cartels within a system, they regrouped and went back to the drawing board.
They have now ganged up, recruited new members and vowed to finish the man who cut off their flowing tap of corruption and theft.
To win such a war, the cartels have roped in, knowingly or unknowingly, such entities as the media which is now being used to help the elements achieve their goal by spinning anti-Sonko garbage.
The sad part is that the public is slowly joining the cartels in shouting down Sonko. Cartels anywhere in the world have one mantra: we eat or no one eats! And that is what they are doing in Nairobi.
They behave like suicide bombers; if they cannot win they bring down the whole building.
The ongoing fight against Sonko reminds one of the popular analogy of thieves who turn against their victim and shout thief! Thief!
The public, oblivious of the plot, join the thieves to stone the victim of robbery. The thieves, then walk away to share the loot.
It is these duplicitous ways of the cartels that Kenyans should reject.
Support Sonko to finish the cartels that have made it their duty to steal public money collected from hardworking Nairobians!
