Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Peter Kenneth now wants his rival Senator Mike Sonko to shelf his ambitions and back his candidature.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, the independent candidate said contrary to views that he was spoiling for Sonko, it was the Senator who was actually spoiling his chances of dislodging the incumbent Evans Kidero.Kenneth said if the tribal arithmetic is anything to go by, then Sonko should shelf his ambitions as he does not have the numbers to clinch the seat.He argued that his Kikuyu community makes up the largest voting bloc in the county followed by the Luhyas, adding that Sonko's Akamba community has very few numbers."If we go by the tribal arithmetic then it is Sonko who should step down because he has no numbers. The Kikuyu community to which I belong is the majority followed by the Luhyas from where my running mate comes from, so it is Sonko who is actually spoiling for us," said Kenneth.A week ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked the former Gatanga lawmaker to shelf his bid and support Sonko, arguing that vying separately would gift Kidero a second term in office.Kenneth who lost during the Jubilee nominations to Sonko opted to contest the seat as an independent candidate, claiming that he had been rigged out.
