Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has urged city residents to reject Senator Mike Sonko's candidature for governorship during the forthcoming general elections.
In a telephone interview with the Daily Nation on Monday, Kidero noted that Sonko is unfit for the city's top seat, adding that a win for the lawmaker could undo "his good work" that he has embarked on for the past four and half years.
"We cannot accept Nairobi to be controlled by a comedian. We need a credible leader who will be able to address issues facing city residents and not one who is making knee-jerk pronouncements that are not tenable in practice,” Kidero said.
Sonko is seeking to unseat governor Kidero on a Jubilee Party ticket.
His bid received a major boost last week, following the endorsement of his bid by Deputy President William Ruto.
The flamboyant senator floored former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth during the just concluded party primaries to win the Jubilee Party ticket.
Kenneth has since rejoiced the race as an independent candidate.
