Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has come up with new strategies to fight the garbage menace in the city.
The governor said that unlike in the past, they were going to devolve the process and involve leaders at the grassroots levels to help clear the city of the environmental menace.
Sonko said they would issue out garbage containers to residents and that these would be collected by his workers for disposal.
"We are in the process of distributing garbage skips/containers to strategic areas within the entire Nairobi CBD and Estates," he said.
"The exercise of changing garbage skips to designated areas will be conducted on daily basis by workers from the environmental department and not residents. In a bid to create job opportunities for our youths we will devolve garbage collection to Ward levels where MPs , MCAs will be involved. Tung'arishe jiji letu," he added.
