Nairobi governor Mike Sonko is transforming the county to be a technology city.
Speaking after the launch of the Nairobi Data Centre on Monday, Sonko said his government was quickly transforming service delivery from overelying on the manual systems to computerised and online systems to increase efficiency.
"Nairobians will enjoy easy payment solutions from wherever they are. Using their computers and mobile phones, they will be able to check their bills and pay for any service ranging from rates, single business permits, parking, water, food handling certificates, market rents and many more," the governor said.
"With the completion of this Data Centre, we are rolling out emails for all staff, installing modern telephone systems in all offices, installing more than 150 CCTV cameras in and around City Hall and City Hall Annex and establishing a modern website. This will facilitate an easier and an efficient workflow," the governor added.
He also initiated the video conferencing for county workers saying that it would help minimise the amount of time lost during movement for meetings.
The city will become the first East African hub to fully embrace ICT in its operations.
