Nairobi governorship aspirant Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko has sensationally dismissed his ‘criminal’ past adding that it would not be an obstacle to his candidature in August.

The Nairobi senator won Jubilee primaries and is due to face incumbent Evans Kidero on ODM in a contest that would define the future of city politics.

In his remarks on Citizen TV on Wednesday, Sonko said he is ready for the battle adding that he was confidence of the victory.

“I know some people are digging in my criminal past but they should know that it cannot stop me from going for the city job,” he said.

The former Makadara MP added: “Even NASA leader Raila Odinga was at some point in jail and he will be on the ballot. Let us be real.”

Although he was never convicted, reports indicate that Mr. Sonko was at some point locked at Shimo La Tewa prison.

Similarly, Odinga, a former Prime Minister, was a political detainee for many years before realization of multiparty democracy in Kenya.
