Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's bid to dislodge the incumbent Governor Evans Kidero has received a major boost after Gema and Akamba elders endorsed his candidature.
Led by Gema Community co-chair Bishop Peter Njenga, the elders observed that Sonko was the right candidate to steer the country's capital to development.
"We as the elders from the Gema and Kamba communities are fully behind you and pledge to convince our communities to vote for you again, now as this time as their Governor," said Njenga, as quoted by the Star.
In a ceremony held at All Africa Conference of Churches in Nairobi on Tuesday, the elders said Sonko is a development-oriented leader who has been denied the opportunity to transform Nairobi since 2013.
"We endorse Sonko and his running mate Polycarp Igathe because they have a vision for this great city, which includes provision of much-needed services," the Bishop said.
The ceremony was graced by Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu, former anti-corruption boss Mumo Matemu and Ambassador Monica Juma.
The endorsement comes a week after Kamba Clans Governing Council installed the Jubilee Party candidate as a Kamba elder in a colourful ceremony held in his Mua Hills home, Machakos.
