Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has refused to take up a cabinet post after the next general polls in exchange for the area’s governorship in the forthcoming general polls, Star reports.

According to the local daily, sources close to President Uhuru Kenyatta claim that the senator has insisted that he will be on the ballot box come Friday regardless of what Jubilee leaders will say about the issue.

The senator is said to have been promised a job as the Nairobi Metropolitan Region but he turned it down.

The source further revealed that the senator was to oversee Kiambu, Kajiado, Murang’a and Machakos counties had he taken the job.

“We have given up on Sonko. We wanted him to back Kenneth and we even offered him many other options, but he has rejected all of them,” revealed the source.

Deputy President William Ruto’s aide said that Jubilee leadership has opted to let the people decide after its effort to have him change his mind proved futile as the race to state heats up.

“The senator has insisted he wants to be governor. Let Jubilee people decide who between the two should be the governor candidate,” said the aide.

The alleged endorsement of Peter Kenneth for governorship has continued to attract mixed reactions from different factions.
