Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has come to the rescue of a county employee he says was ejected from a house claimed to be built in a grabbed piece of land that belongs to the county government.
Sonko on Wednesday directed county government detectives to intervene and save the man said to have been evicted from the house early Wednesday morning.
"The war on land grabbing is real and a serious issue. I will fight to the end to ensure that county public land remains in the hands of the Nairobians," Sonko said on his official Facebook page.
He said he was perturbed by the way some police officers were conducting investigation in regard to land grabbing syndicates in the city.
"Today (Wednesday) at dawn, a lab technician Barnabas Asembo working at Pumwani hospital was harassed by some individuals who were forcing him to vacate from a county house he has been staying," Sonko added.
"The County staff was locked at Pangani police station with the aim of intimidating him to bow out and surrender the house which is being grabbed by a well known individual and only identified as Rashid."
Sonko said the evicted employee was taken to Millimani law courts for charges to be preferred against him.
"I have directed my county detectives to over the case and do thorough investigations so that all the culprits involved in grabbing public land can be brought to book," he said.
