Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has revealed that corrupt city employees will be dealt with accordingly and those arrested stealing taxpayers' money will be dismissed from employment.
Sonko who was speaking on Sunday at the ACK St Stephen's Cathedral along Jogoo Road said specific county employees will be assigned duty to carry out spot checks on suspected corrupt employees.
"We have started impromptu check-ups. We recently arrested one cashier. He had stashed money inside his pockets, underwear and inside the coat," he said during the church service attended by Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
"He had close to Sh7 million in cash and it's your money that you pay. And there was a long line of people who were expected to benefit. Chief Officers and MCAs. When we entertain this, how will development come?"
He said before he came into office the city county had salary arrears. This, he said, happened because money that was meant for paying worker's salaries was being stolen.
The former Makadara MP said his administration will not entertain graft and employees found swindling taxpayers' money will be sacked and prosecuted.
He spoke three days after he paraded a city employee he claims "has been swindling millions of shillings from bar owners by issuing them with fake county liquor licenses."
