The Nairobi City Hall has fired three of the Nairobi County government assistants attached to the office of the governor. According to a paid notice published in the local dailies, three names of the aides will no longer serve in the capacity of personal assistants to Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko.

On Tuesday morning three Nairobi City County employees have been aid off. The three, who includes Bernard Mulwa- governor Sonko’s personal assistant, Joseph Ireri- the deputy director in the delivery unit, and Michael Mutua have been dismissed.

The notice published in the dailies bore the names, photographs and ID numbers of the three officers.

“The county advises the public that the persons... are neither employees of the governor's office nor of the county government, hence are not mandated to transact any business on behalf of the county,” read the notice.

It is only three months down the line since the three assistants were employed by governor Sonko who had elected them with the hopes of using their expertise in steering his development goals. The governor sent a stern warning against people whom he termed as imposters transacting the county’s business.

“They are also soliciting for bribes from employed youths, promising them employment as security constables and firefighters," he said.

“Nairobi wishes to state that soliciting and receiving bribes is a criminal offense hence any person masquerading as a Nairobi county employee or associating the county government with such criminal acts should be apprehended and prosecuted in a court of law," he added.

This comes a few days after the Nairobi City County's deputy governor's office fell vacant following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe as the county's deputy governor.
