Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has now turned his attention to the Nairobi River as he strives to clean the county.
Speaking Thursday, the Governor who acknowledged the bad state of the heavily littered river, announced plans to launch a campaign aimed at cleaning it.
''We will launch an aggressive campaign to clean the Nairobi River which is currently chocking with waste,'' he said.
He expressed hope that his efforts will further be boosted by the recent ban on plastic bags, as the product forms the biggest percentage of poorly disposed litter, some of which find its way into the river.
The county chief also called upon relevant firms and individuals to join him in the new initiative.
''Kenya has banned the use of plastic bags and is already leading to a cleaner environment. I urge participants to join hands to support improvement of Nairobi River,'' he added.
He however did not disclose when the initiative is set to kick off.
