Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reacted after more than 20 bodyguards were withdrawn from his team.
The governor has condemned the move by the Interior Ministry stating that senior government officials are fighting him.
"Yes, I can confirm that he only has three officers at his disposal. This is because the governor has sealed all loopholes of corruption and serial looters now want to bring him down," a communication officer from the county is quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.
"Sonko has been working day and night to ensure Nairobi reclaims its past glory but some government officials are not happy. I can confirm that a top official is hunting down the governor but we will not relent," he added.
However, the officer failed to disclose weather Sonko will hire private security firms.
This comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced a move to scale down the level of VIP's protection by a half.
Governors and their deputies, cabinet ministers, MPs, and Senators are set to lose half of their armed bodyguards.
