The governor of Nairobi, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has suffered a major PR setback after a mainstream television station aired a story that cast serious aspersions on his leadership.

Citizen television did a feature that showed the grim state of Nairobi.

According to the station's reporter who did the feature, piles of garbage litter the city, water problems in many Nairobi suburbs persist, and hawkers continue to inconvenience shop owners in the city.

100 days have passed since the flamboyant governor took the reins at City Hall.

During his sophisticated campaign, Sonko promised to address the issues that the people of Nairobi were grappling with, lashing out at the outgoing Kidero administration which he accused of going to bed with cartels.

Efforts to contact Sonko came to naught as calls to him went unanswered.

For a politician who has styled himself as a breath of fresh air for Nairobi, this is a serious PR setback
