Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has been summoned by a Mombasa court over the disappearance of Mombasa Republic Council (MRC) leader Omar Hamisi Mwamnuadzi.
According to Nation, the senator had helped bail out the MRC leader who was being accused of illegally being in possession of a gun and rounds of ammunition.
Sonko’s woes began after Mwamnuadzi on Monday failed to avail himself in court, something that made the Mombasa chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti to issue summons calling on the senator to clarify his (Mwamnuadzi's) whereabouts.
Ogoti similarly issued a warrant of arrest on Mwamnuadzi after a successful application by the prosecution.
Principal Prosecution Counsel Jami Yamina had earlier filed an application for Mr Mwamnuadzi’s arrest on terms that medical documents his side had presented to court as evidence that he was in hospital were not genuine.
“We have verified the documents, the accused was never hospitalised at the hospital, the electronic medical number on the documents relates to another person,” said Mr Yamina.
The senator is yet to make a response to the court.
