Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi MPs for snubbing him to back former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth in the race to unseat Dr Evans Kidero.
Sonko, who is known for his flamboyant lifestyle, insisted that he deserves Jubilee’s party ticket ahead of August because he has stood with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto when they needed him most.
The senator, who took his campaigns to Nairobi’s Eastlands area on Monday, also said that he has been a great support of the current leadership since UhuRuto ascended to power, adding that he expects them to back his bid.
“I have been a staunch party member and a defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta especially when he had a case at the International Criminal Court, but the moment I declared interest in the governor’s post, some people felt I should not be supported,” Mr Sonko told his supporters as quoted by Nation.
The race for the Nairobi governorship took a different twist following the entry of Peter Kenneth.
A section of leaders from this county opposed Kenneth’s candidature, terming him as an outcast after he officially declared interest in the seat a few weeks ago.
