Nairobi Governor Miko Sonko has said the criminals mugging and harassing residents in Nairobi County are politically sponsored.
The governor, through his Facebook page, said they have positioned several detectives within the CBD, and that they will ensure they curb the situation.
“Those suspects who are armed are not muggers. They are dangerous elements in our society. About security, in the CBD we have several detectives. We have also received intelligence report that they are politically sponsored,” he posted.

There has been a public outcry in the last week after reports emerged that there were armed gangs terrorizing Kenyans in the streets of Nairobi.
In images and videos doing rounds on social media, young men are seen attacking individuals in broad daylight, a situation that has sent panic among Kenyans.
Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome has further warned Kenyans that they should be careful on the streets, further urging them not to ‘dress expensively’ as this attracts the gangs.
The governor further revealed that there are plans to ensure street families are moved in a humane manner.
