Woes facing Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko seems to escalate after he went against the will of his political party.
On Wednesday, Sonko appointed lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy, a move that has been opposed by his party.
Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has now revealed that the party was planning to impeach Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Murathe, termed Sonko's act of nominating lawyer Miguna Miguna as mere distraction, which would not derail Jubilee's plan of impeaching the county boss.
Murathe alleged that Sonko was distracting Nairobians from his poor performance.
"Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG’s position but his administration’s dismal performance. He is covering up his mistakes by trying to divert attention. His nomination of Miguna is of no significance,“Murathe noted.
Murathe's admission could be an indicator that Sonko has fallen out of favour with top Jubilee officials including the Party's boss President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Jubilee MCAs in Nairobi County Assembly however have also echoed similar sentiments of rejecting Miguna's nomination. On the other hand, Jubilee leaders led by National Assembly Leader Aden Duale and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja have already rejected the nomination and advised Sonko to withdraw Miguna's name as Deputy Governor.
" Miguna is not a member of the Jubilee Party. We have told Sonko that the only time he can take a name to that Assembly (County) is after consulting with the party leader - the President ," Duale said.
