Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has said his government will hire street children to be cleaning the city.
Sonko said the children in the Central Business District will be employed as cleaners on condition that they quit drugs.
He said that apart from earning salaries, the children will also be provided with housing.
Sonko said this when he spoke to a group of the street children at the City Hall.
The children pledged to quit drugs and leave the streets.
“We are ready to leave the streets; you will not see us on the streets once we get a place to stay,” indicated one of the street children.
