Nairobi Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko now wants his rival Peter Kenneth to abandon his bid and join him in his quest to oust the incumbent Governor Evans Kidero.
The flamboyant senator extended an olive branch to the former Gatanga MP calling on him to join the Jubilee campaign team.
“There is no permanent enmity in politics, we need to forgive each other and work together. There are so many slots in Nairobi and we can even negotiate for him a Cabinet position,” said Sonko as quoted by the Standard.
He said despite having engaged in a bruising battle for Jubilee ticket with Kenneth during party primaries, he was ready to work with him to restore the lost glory of the Nairobi County.
“I have no hard feelings, let us unite and take Nairobi to the next level,” Sonko added.
Kenneth ditched Jubilee after suffering a humiliating defeat in the hands of Sonko during the Jubilee Party primaries held two months ago.
The former Planning assistant minister rejected the outcome of the nomination exercise and declared to run for the seat as an independent candidate.
The leading contestants in the race to the capital’s top office are Evans Kidero (ODM), Mike Sonko (Jubilee), Peter Kenneth (Independent) and former Raila Odinga’s aide Miguna Miguna who is also vying as an independent candidate.
