Addressing workers and guests during Labour Day celebrations held at Uhuru Park on Sunday, Sonko wronged subjecting allowances and bonuses to taxes.

"Bonuses and overtime allowances should be tax-free. We should not overtax our workers because they do a lot in building the nation," said Sonko.

The controversial senator said many people blame the government for not taking the welfare of workers into account yet they do not implement all government policies when it comes to adding workers’ salaries.

"I cannot criticise the government yet I am part of it. As for me, I am working to serve City residents. I have done my best especially through the Sonko Rescue Team which is a personal initiative," added Nairobi senator.

He castigated the recent opposition move to storm the IEBC offices and kick out IEBC commissioners.

Sonko said that police officers who raided the opposition party were right to teargas them saying that Cord supporters also stoned police.

"When I was in the opposition, I was beaten by the police. I was manhandled. The police were doing their work and no one should complain about it," maintained Sonko.

Gatundu North Member of Parliament who was booed during the event urged Cord leaders to bring the IEBC disbandment motion in parliament promising that they would disband it.

Also present were cabinet secretaries Adan Mohamed (Industrialisation), Dan Kazungu (Mining), Phyllis Kandie (Labour), Raychelle Omamo (Defence), Jacob Kaimenyi (Lands), James Macharia (Roads) and Willy Bett (Agriculture).
