Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has asked his colleagues in other counties to uphold the law and respect workers’ rights.
He said governors should desist from sacking their staff on the basis of their political affiliations.
Instead, Sonko advised them that they should sack those who have been found to be incompetent and corrupt.
“In many counties, workers have been fired but we will not do the same here in Nairobi. Let us stop sacking workers without any mistake just to settle political vendetta,” said Sonko Tuesday as quoted by Nairobi News.
He said his administration has retained all staff he inherited from the immediate former Governor Evans Kidero’s administration.
He told journalists at City Hall that he will not victimise any staff in terms of who they voted for in the August 8 polls.
“I would like to tell the new governors to respect workers and their rights. I have retained the employees and even the guy who was preparing tea for Mr Kidero is still working for me. Even the typists and receptionists,” he said.
“I know those who didn’t vote for me and supported my opponent but elections are now over. Let’s work together for the betterment of Nairobi. Politicking is now over,” he added.
