Nairobi governor-elect Mike Sonko has asked his predecessor Evans Kidero to stop any further City Hall activities that might compromise the county's financial position.

Sonko, who is set to be sworn in the governor Monday next week has already begun work on the ground and ordered his government to pay employees and contractors.

He has declined a Sh25 million party for his inauguration and ordered that the money be used to pay workers their salaries that were in arrears.

Through lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, the outgoing Nairobi senator warned Kidero that any further financial transactions by him were illegal and would attract necessary legal action.

“Following the conclusion of the General Election, our client is now the governor-elect. As a result it is necessary to ensure a necessary transition of the reins of power in the city county from yourself, stem financial haemorrhage, forestall collapse of services and maintain accurate and proper records of the county government,” he said in the letter on August 14.

“Please liaise with us in meeting the foregoing objectives to enable us to secure the best interests of the residents of Nairobi and further note that our client has instructed us that in default of your responses by the close of business August 15, we have instructions to seek legal redress,” the letter added.
