Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko wants to join the Cord Coalition, an MP has said.
Peter Kaluma, the Homa Bay MP says that Sonko wants to join Cord but that he must not come with any conditions.
He says that Sonko is welcome in Cord and that he will be taken in with open arms but must respect the current status quo.
“There must not be any conditions for his move but he is welcome in Cord,” Kaluma said Wednesday in Nairobi.
Sonko had over the weekend been quoted as saying that he will join Cord as long as former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is named that the opposition flag bearer for the 2017 polls.
He has since stated that he is keen on taking Kalonzo to the Jubilee Coalition.
But in the past, there have been rumours that the Senator has been offered the position of Machakos Governor by Kalonzo to jump ship.
Sonko is originally a Machakos native and lives there, but he has already set his sights on the position of Nairobi Governor come the polls.
“I will battle for Nairobi Governor. That is as much as I will say,” he recently stated on the rumours of his exit to Machakos.
