Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko. He has revealed details behind his incarceration at the Shimo la Tewa prison.Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has for the first time revealed details behind his incarceration at the Shimo la Tewa Maximum Prison.
Sonko who is seeking is contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on Wednesday laid in open how he ended up at the Coast based detention facility prior to his joining politics.
In an interview with K24 on Wednesday, the former Makadara lawmaker said his arrest and subsequent imprisonment was as a result of a deal gone sour over a piece of land which he had sold as a broker and not over drug trafficking as widely believed.
"I was initially working as a lands middle man.And so in the course of my duty there is a piece of land which I sold.I got my commission but the owner of the land was not very happy at the price on which I sold the land because he felt I had sold it so cheaply and so he reported me to the police and that is how I ended up at Shimo la Tewa," he said.
Sonko added that he should not be judged based on his past claiming that being in prison was no yardstick to rate leaders.
"If anything even Raila Odinga has been in prison, Nelson Mandela the same, So why should one condemn me for having been imprisoned," he said.
The Jubilee aspirant is embroiled in a do or die contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat pitying himself and incumbent governor Evans Kidero as well as independent candidate Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna.
