In a tweet on Wednesday, Sonko said his administration has identified Mwiriro Market to be transformed into hawkers' hub to avoid the congestion in the city center.
"My office has a comprehensive plan to ensure hawkers' interests are taken care of. As a longterm measure, my administration has identified Mwariro Market to be transformed into a hawkers’ market," read the tweet.
The governor also added that plans are underway to acquire the KPCU building located along Haille Sellasie Avenue and transform it into another hawkers' market.
"Plans are also underway to acquire KPCU building and transform it into a market," he added.
The move by the Governor is a step to settle the promise he had made to the hawkers during his campaigns before the August 8 general elections.
Sonko won the elections under a Jubilee party ticket against ODM's Evans Kidero who is the former governor, Independent candidates Miguna Miguna and Peter Kenneth.
