Small businesses in Nairobi are set to start benefitting from a loan scheme being fronted by the county government’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
After a round-table between Governor Mike Sonko and the Nairobi Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce, several resolutions were passed including that to lend money to small businesses.
The meeting similarly agreed to establish a complete database for all small-scale entrepreneurs so as to improve engagement and lobbying, as well as a youth employment circle for the publishing job opportunities.
Nairobi Chapter chairman Richard Ngatia said the scheme will involve philanthropists to give grants and business loans that will be provided through the county.
“We are working with the county to convene development partners and philanthropists to match a potential county business loan initiative to be managed by a reputable firm,” Ngatia said.
“We are trying to find a new way to engage every businessperson with the county, including hawkers.”
