The county government of Nairobi has advanced plans to evict city residents who have rent arrears.
The county’s ‘minister’ for finance, Danvas Makori, says the arrears owed to the Sonko administration amount to Sh600 million.
The claimed the residents who live in county houses have not been paying their monthly rents.“We have sent them demand notices to make sure they pay in time so they don’t have to face any adverse actions,” Mr Makori said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Some of the city estates with most defaulters include Jamhuri, Buru Buru, Kariokor, Old and New Ngara and Bachelors Quarters.
The county official warned that the deadline for payments would not be extended, and defaulters will face fines.
“We will stick to our programme and there will be no extensions...Don’t wait until we send our enforcement unit to come to your premise to take what is due,” he said.
