However, a few hours after former President Mwai Kibaki was reported to be ill and flown to SouthAfrica for treatment, Sonko posted a passionate prayer on Facebook for the former head of state.

His prayer, “Almighty Father, hold his Excellency Mwai Kibaki at this time of illness, watch over him when he cannot sleep, speak your love to him when he is afraid, touch and heal his weak body.”

He continued: “Lord, you are the fountain of life. I ask for your life giving water to pour down upon him. Build him up again, look after his emotions and may he know your loving arms are around him at this time. Thank you for your love, and for your promises to your children. Thank you that you will never leave my fellow Kenyans, and that you bring us a peace that surpasses all understanding. I wish his Excellency quick recovery may he get well soon in Jesus name.”

Many of his followers supported and affirmed the power of prayer.

One Virginia Wanjiru said, “He's a healer Jehova Rapha. Quick recovery our former president. Sonko that's so kind of you. The bible says that from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. May God bless you and may God bless you mightly for such kind words.”

Another got an opportunity to seek help for an ailing elderly man in Mombasa. Edward Bushuru posted, “There is a mzee at Bombo Utange (Bamburi Mombasa) called Steven. He has a bladder issue. He is a widower with two sons doing mjengo. From time to time I visit him with my wife and take uji, Ribena or fruits to him. He is very poor and so are we. Can anyone help this old man who is in real pain?”
