Deputy President William Ruto could not hold his laughter when Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko presented his Jamuhuri Day speech.
With protocol dictating that the city governor invite all attendees, Sonko read a brief speech before inviting Ruto to proceed with the ceremony.
But erroneously, Sonko failed to recognize First Lady Margret Kenyatta, instead attributing his recognition to President Uhuru Kenyatta's mother, Mama Kenyatta, who was however absent from the podium.
"You Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, Your Excellency First Lady Mama Ng'ina Kenyatta, Your Excellency William Ruto," read Sonko' speech.
He added: "Welcome all to Nairobi, the country's capital. As county government, we are delighted to host you all."
Notably, Sonko may have been making reference to Margret Kenyatta, who was present in the event, a reason why Ruto was left in stitches.
But Mama Ngina Kenyatta, was once Kenya's First Lady between 1963-78 upon the death of founding father, Jomo Kenyatta
