Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has raised eyebrows by his stay at the presidential suite of a luxury hotel in the city.
According to Sunday Nation, Sonko's official convoy is usually seen outside the Nairobi Safari Club from where he meets some of his visitors when he is not working at his City Hall office.
However, the governor has responded saying he has been paying the bills from his own pocket since he started residing at the Lillian Towers four months ago.
He added that the same hotel served as the campaign headquarters of his team ahead of the August 8 General Election.
“I have not taken even a single cent from the county to pay for the room," he said as quoted by the Nation.
Sonko added: "Even the money to buy milk for tea in my office comes from my own pocket,” he added, arguing that the Treasury was yet to release money to counties.
“I am meeting people here for my private businesses, which I don’t have to disclose to you,” the governor further said.
