Two supporters of Nairobi governor candidate Mike Sonko died after being crushed by a canter at Muthurwa footbridge on Wednesday.
The deceased were among many supporters who were from the Jubilee Party headquarters heading towards the CBD in a lorry.
The Standard reports that, “they were standing in the moving canter when they went under the bridge and crushed their heads in the process. They died on the spot.”
Sonko’s supporters had accompanied him to the party headquarters where he was issued the Jubilee nomination certificate.
Sonko beat former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth in the primaries to clinch the ticket.
The senator, seeking to unseat Governor Evans Kidero (ODM), named Polycarp Igathe as his running mate on Tuesday.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna (Independent) is also vying for the seat.
