The Jubilee Party gubernatorial nominee for Nairobi, Senator Mike Sonko, has vowed to slay the dragon of corruption if elected in the August polls.

Speaking while formally unveiling Vivo Energy Chief Executive Officer Polycarp Igathe as his running mate for the August 8 contest, Sonko pledged not tolerate graft in the devolved unit.

“As you will see from our manifesto, which we will be unveiling shortly, our agenda for, this county is issue based and will be anchored on good governance, transparency and I shall not entertain any form of corruption in whichever form,” he promised on Wednesday as quoted by Capital News.

The Senator said he will ensure that city residents get the services they deserve, promising to provide employment opportunities to the youth.

“I undertake to restore the cleanliness and glory of the city under the then status, which has totally eroded, and I shall occasionally be making spot checks to ensure this is achieved and this will also include employment opportunities to the unemployed youth who will be given priority in terms of job opportunities to fulfil this task,” he said.

He pointed an accusing finger at the incumbent Governor Evans Kidero for neglecting county roads and garbage collection which he said has gone from bad to worse.

“Whilst I do not wish to play politics of slander and mudslinging, it is inescapable to say that the incumbent has totally failed the city residents in terms of service delivery,” he remarked.

In his acceptance speech, Igathe pledged to work closely with the Jubilee nominee to deliver on a manifesto the duo will unveil soon.

“Our mission is simple: to make Nairobi clean and bright, safe and secure, liable and hospitable and make Nairobi the true gateway and door to our great motherland,” Igathe said.
