South Nyanza Sugar Company has lost cane worth Sh2.4 billion to cane poachers for the last five years.
Managing director Benard Otieno says many farmers who received financial support from the company to develop cane have opted to give cane to private millers hence making the company incur losses.
Otieno said their appeal to both national and county government to help them deal with the cane poaching have born no fruits.
The MD said cane poaching has emasculated the company financially, causing a delay in the payment of farmers.
He, however, assured farmers that the company is doing all possible to ensure that they are paid.
Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Sony branch Omolo Odondi has been pushing for payment of the debts owed to cane farmers.
