Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Wilson Sossion has hit out at the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for telling voters to keep off polling stations during the August 8 elections.

Matiangi’s directive came after the National Super Alliance (Nasa) team maintained it will have five agents at each polling station across the country in order to guard it’s votes from being stolen.

The Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga during a past rally is also quoted telling voters to vote and wait for the results to be announced at the polling stations.

Speaking in Konoin area in Bomet county on Thursday, July 27 where he met over 300 teachers, Sossion told off the CS that a polling station is not like an examination room where people should keep off.

"A polling station is not an examination centre where you do exam, go home and wait for results. In a polling centre, you vote and wait for your results then go home," said Sossion

The fiery Knut boss further asked the teachers to vote for the opposition team in the forthcoming elections noting that Nasa will address their grievances.

“Many qualified teachers have languished without employment and it is time to address the unemployment and shortage of teachers through the ballot," he added.
