Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion has said that there is need for more consultations before rolling out the new curriculum next year.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting for Head Teachers on Wednesday in Mombasa, Sossion the new system needs testing before full implementation
"Curriculum review must go through the necessary stages; Assessment, policy formulation, design of curriculum framework ,development of syllabus ,development of learning material s and the learning materials must be tested and prove to be working .This cannot be done within one year maybe two years before any roll out is done,” said Sossion.
Sossion affirmed that he is not opposed to the system, but it’s important to have enough pilot projects to test and evaluate its effectiveness before rolling it out.
“Some of those expected to roll out the new curriculum do not understand it; we are not against it but it is very important for everybody to understand it,” said Sossion.
Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has confirmed that the new system will be rolled in January next year.
