Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general, Wilson Sossion has demanded a pay rise for teachers come October.
Speaking at the ongoing KEPSHa conference in Mombasa, Sossion urged the government to take teachers' demands seriously lest they resolve to take industrial action when October arrives.
"Consultations for teachers demands remain key amid the ongoing reforms in the education sector. I still have the whistle and will blow it if the government delays in implementing teachers demands," he said
The pending Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) between teachers and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to increase the pay of teachers and Knut has vowed to not relent in their quest for a better pay for teachers.
Sossion went ahead to warn TSC against using performance contracts to try and tie the hands of teachers during the negotiations.
The speech by the Knut secretary general was received with cheers from at least 10,000 school heads attending the conference.
