Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Wilson Sossion has decried constant inteference by government and other individuals meddling in the affairs of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
The nominated MP, who was speaking on Citizen TV's Cheche show, said there is need to let the body operate independently.
"KICD must be left to work independently because the constant interferences from a section of the government and even private entities are hurting its progress. How then will it deliver on its key agenda if this meddling goes on?" he said.
The body which is planning to roll out the new 2-6-3-3 curriculum that will replace the 8-4-4 system by 2018 was on Monday dragged back on the plan after a Kenyan rushed to court to block the exercise from taking place citing numerous breaches.
University lecturer Eric Mugambi filed a petition at the Mombasa High Court seeking orders to compel the Ministry of Education to set up a national committe to lead in the implementation of the new basic education curriculum and manage transition from the older one.
