[Photo|nation.co.ke]The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion has lauded the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for the record release of KCPE results, only 19 days after the exams were completed.Sossion, speaking at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on Tuesday after the release of exams also thanked the Education CS Fred Matiang'i, said that these are the kind of reforms they have been yearning for years."We are indeed very happy to hear that there was no single case of malpractice and that no one is going to miss their results," Sossion said.He added: "I am also very grateful that the CS says that the second top candidate is from a public school. Public schools are coming back. What we are now requesting is that the government now invests in quality teachers' training and that we have better infrastructure for our children's conducive learning."Education CS Fred Matiang'i said that the top student in the 2017 KCPE exams scored 455 marks, an improvement from 437 marks in 2016 while saying that 9,846 candidates scored 400 marks and above."We hope to complete placement by 4th of December. I have firm instruction from the president that by Jamhuri Day every child should be placed in a school," said Matiang'i.Matiang'i said that the early release of the exam, the first in the history of KCPE, was fast-tracked by optical machines.
