The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general, Wilson Sossion addressed Special Schools Headteachers Association (SSHAK) members at the first ever annual conference held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Nairobi. The conference that begun on Monday, ended on Wednesday, with various matters affecting special needs education being discussed. During the opening of the conference, Education CS, Fred Matiang'i promised to help SSHAK achieve its objectives in the country. Special needs students were to get more funds, learning materials and other valuable materials. On Wednesday, Wilson Sossion drummed up the already highlighted issues by Matiang'i. He lauded the work being carried out by special needs education teachers in ensuring all disabled children get a quality education just as the normal students in the country."We need to give special needs education more attention. The lack of enough teachers, learning materials and lack of an inclusive curriculum are matters that should be addressed to help give disabled children quality education. KNUT is going to do all it can to ensure the situations are changed," remarked Sossion. SSHAK chairman, Arthur Injenga was also present at the function, and thanked all members for their time and cooperation and urged Sossion to ensure his promises are fulfilled.
