Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) boss Wilson Sossion has responded to his Tuesday suspension.
Speaking on Tuesday, Sossion maintained that he is the secretary general of the teachers union despite the suspension by KNUT's executive council.
In a majority vote, the KNUT National Executive Committee on Monday voted 22 against 2 members to suspend Sossion.
Sossion's deputy Hesbon Otieno will now take over.
Speaking during the Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park grounds in Nairobi, Sossion, downplayed his dismissal saying he is still the union’s duly-elected leader.
“I am the Secretary General of KNUT, duly elected by the teachers of Kenya,” said Sossion.
However, addressing the media after Sossion’s address at Uhuru Park, KNUT Chairman Wycliffe Omucheyi said Monday’s move to suspend Sossion was backed by the union’s constitution.
