The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Wilson Sossion has categorically stated that he will not relinquish his position as the union secretary general amid calls for his exit.
Chaos marred the giant’s annual delegate’s congress when a group of delegates from Central region stormed the meeting calling for an ouster of Sossion as directed by a gazette notice.
There have been divisions amongst Knut members after Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie asked Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion and 10 other elected leaders to quit trade unions owing to their political positions they hold.
George Njoroge from Kiambu said Sossion should choose between being an MP or secretary general.
"If Sossion will relinquish his post, it won't go Central. The constitution says Session can't be here. You cannot be in Opposition and expect to negotiate with the government on behalf of teachers," said Njoroge after storming out of the meeting.
He said he Sossion alongside other trade unionists will on 22 Dec this year move to court and file content proceedings against cabinet secretary Phylis Kandie over the Gazettement on the Union official among other trade unionists.
“We are going to do anything possible to quash this gazettement.Trade unions are on trial and we together with other trade Unions are going to file a lawsuit against Kandie on 22 of dec,” said Sossion.
The ADC meeting started calmly on Thursday morning but trouble started after some delegates from central Kenya demanded his resignation. They stormed the meeting while chanting and singing songs denouncing the nominated ODM MP.
