Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion said the visits do not augur well with the officials of the schools and the programme.

Sossion termed the unplanned visits as public relation stunts that add no value whatsoever to the education sector in the country.

He accused Matiang’i of seeking political mileage at the expense of improving the sector.

Speaking on Thursday during the launch of the annual report on learning assessment at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Sossion said the impromptu visits by the CS should be delegated to quality assurance officials as per the programme.

He however said the system of having quality assurance and inspection officials failed a long time ago, and urged the CS to appoint new officials.

"The system died a long time ago and instead of witch hunting by the CS, he should know what to do and open his thinking in order to bring harmony and sanity within the sector,” said Sossion.

He added, "I want to ask my brother Matiang'i to delegate the tasks to an appointed task force comprising of quality assurance officers that will eventually report to his office on the state of affairs within the education sector in the country.” said Sossion.

The CS has made impromptu visits to schools in Kitui, Nairobi’s Kibera slums and Nakuru.
