The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has come under scathing attack from women leaders following his assertions that Deputy Speaker Dr Joyce Laboso should not vie for Bomet Governor’s seat because she is married in a different county.

Sossion was quoted telling the people of Bomet County not to vote for Ms Laboso governor since she is married in Nyakach, an area within Kisumu County.

The National Alliance (TNA) party nominated Senator Joy Gwendo said such a statement from a respectable trade unionist flies in the face of democracy and women empowerment.

She called on the Knut leader to desist from what she  termed as archaic thinking that belongs to the past generations and called on all Kenyans to rally behind her Laboso in her quest to conquer political space in the country.

“Sossion still lives in the past and he should be reminded that the uncouth tactics with which he rules Knut can never be applied in a political contest. What does marriage have to do with a political contest?” she quipped.

The Senator added that women empowerment is a global sign of political maturity and democracy and that anybody seen to be thwarting such efforts is an enemy of development.
