Embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has claimed that there are individuals in the government who want him out of office.

According to Sossion, the government is trying to fight him because he has been a critic of the current administration on ‘their bad policies’.

This comes after a week that was tense with happenings at the giant union, which culminated in disruption of a delegates’ meeting in Mombasa.

According to Sossion, the disruption of the meeting was organized a week ago, even though he did not divulge more details.

“The meeting was aimed at strategizing on how to disrupt our ADC. Branch officials from central Kenya were given money to cause chaos but they did not succeed,” said Mr Sossion as quoted by the Nation.

He however held his ground, saying nothing can shake the union, not even the threats by the government.

It is only last week that the government, through Labour CS Phyllis Kandie askedd Mr Sossion and some other leaders who held public offices to leave office.

“We are a strong team now and ready to push for the welfare of workers and that is what the government does not want. In Parliament we have raised our stake and we will no longer be intimidated by the government or the Teachers Service Commission (TSC),” said Mr Sossion.

In the disrupted Mombasa meeting, delegates from the larger Central region called on Sossion to vacate office, which was seen as a clear political influence.

Session was given a parliamentary nomination by ODM to the 12th parliament.
