Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa's Deputy President and ANC leader, may have after all abandoned Raila Odinga's quest for electoral justice.
At the party's celebrations in East London on Saturday, a charged Ramaphosa, a close ally of Odinga, vowed to work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee.
"The ANC is crafting a working relationship with Kenya's Jubilee to improve ties between the two nations," he told the congregation.
The flamboyant business mogul added: "Ties between the two countries are fundamental and we look forward to work with Kenyatta."
Elected as President of the party last month, Ramaphosa is at pole position to succeed President Jacob Juma next year.
Moments after his victory against Dlamini Zuma, Raila was among the first African leaders to congratulate Ramaphosa.
"I wish to thank my comrade in struggle Cyril for winning ANC presidency. I look forward to work with him," read his statement.
Late last year, the two are said to have met in Zanzibar where Ramaphosa is said to have persuaded Raila to drop his inauguration plans.
